New Pine Trees in the Rhodopes
23.Apr.2008

Volunteers planting trees in the forest near ChepelareThe busy days this spring will result in a healthy forest very soon are the hopes of USAID and the volunteers in Chepelare.
USAID’s green initiatives continued in the Rhodope Mountains near the town of Chepelare last week with a record of 200 new pine trees were planted. Students from the Vocational School in Forestry in Chepelare participated in the joint initiative of the Chepelare Community Foundation and USAID. The students learned how to nurse, plant, and cultivate new needle trees. In addition, the Community Foundation held green lessons in all high schools and kindergartens in the town.
Chepelare Community Foundation is a USAID legacy with an impressive track record of community initiatives in the small Rhodope town with 6000 inhabitants, such as new street lighting, new sports playground, and a tourist information center.
