The program fostered the institutional development of the Bank Supervision Department of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) and strengthened its capacity to regulate and monitor the banking system and individual banks. USAID also supported the creation and strengthening of a Bulgarian Deposit Insurance Fund (BDIF) and enabled the BNB to meet international standards in bank supervision including on-site and off-site supervision.
