The Chitalishte Project had several project aims: building the capacity of the chitalishte as community centers; stimulating community participation and local development through the chitalishte network, and promoting access to modern Information Technologies (IT), mainly in IT-isolated communities. Activities included 67 one-year chitalishte demonstration projects and 25 internet centers established in chitalishtes. A Chitalishte Development Foundation was also established to carry on the work of the Project, as was an Association of Chitalishtes.
